The V For Vendetta and Handmaids Tail Blog created by Joshua Templeton involves three themes from both the V For Vendetta film created by James McTeigue and The Handmaids Tale novel written by Margaret Atwood. these three themes will be linked to “Power”.

The three themes i’m am going to be talking about for V For Vendetta include: The Power of Symbols, Vendettas/Revenge, and Bigotry

The three themes I am going to be talking about for The Handmaids Tale include: Sexuality, Feminism and Power.

Firstly the power of symbols is used in one of the first acts of V For Vendetta when Evie.is walkint to go see her boss after curfew and is stopped in an ally way by Fingermen, Evie didn’t know who they were until they showed her a Fingermen badge and they did she freaked showing that just that symbol is enough make someone frightened at just the sight of it. Also the V symbol is used in the movie aswell and becomes a symbol of hope and change around the world later on in the film when V has told the people of london his plans.

Secondly Vendettas/Revenge is used throughout the entire film as V is going after the people that assisted in what happened to V and all the other people they killed around the country. This shows that from the power of one person trying to make a difference is so great that V can actually go out and do all these essential missions before November 5th whilst also simultaneously gaining followers and peoples approval.

Lastly I am going to be talking about Bigoty, it is shown through when V storms BTN and makes them play the play the video he prepared, telling the whole country and Evie what his plans are and his opinions are. This shows V has the power to make people listen to what he has to say rather than the chancellor.

The first theme for The Handmaids Tale I am going to be talking about is Sexuality this is shown through when they execute gays and lesbians, they destroy pornography and sexual clothing, they kill abortion doctors, they outlaw divorce and second marriages and ritualize bizarre sexual relations that they believe are supported by the bible. This shows how much power the people in charge actually have, they kill gays, lesbians and abortion doctors and they have the power give you restrictions on what to wear.

Secondly I am going to be talking about Feminism, this is shown through Offred’s mother being some what of a mouthpiece for a different kind of feminism, she marches for abortions rights, the banning of pornography, and many other women’s issues. This shows a different kind of power, Offred’s mother doesn’t have any power what so ever yet she is marching for all these changes showing that she will not give up until change comes.

Despite the Gilead regime’s success at imposing order, Atwood’s characters demonstrate that even if any substantial power is taken from people, they will still find a way to maintain control over themselves and other individuals. This shows that even if any substantial power is taken they will find a way to regain power over themselves and other individuals.

In conclusion my blog is about The V for Vendetta film created by James McTeigue and The Handmaids Tale book written by Margaret Atwood and three themes that are both in the film and book and are also linking to power.
